Hi, my name is Charlie Key. I’m the guy with his AI. I will tell you more about myself and why this newsletter exists.

Who Am I?

First, I am a husband and father of three, living in Cincinnati, OH. I spend most of my working hours as the Founder and CEO of Losant, a software IoT platform. I’ve invested in dozens of companies through angel investing and funds I’m part of. My formal education is in computer engineering and computer science; I’m a developer through and through. I’ve slowly worked from being solely a developer to a business leader. Over the last twenty years, I’ve had the honor and privilege of starting multiple tech companies.

I consider myself a technologist passionate about solving complex problems. I love building new products and companies that bring joy to customers. I’ve generally stayed at the forefront of new technology but wouldn’t call myself a bleeding edge. I enjoy learning and using the latest technological advancements.

I enjoy spending time outdoors when I’m not being a family man and managing Losant. This includes playing golf, skiing, watching sports (Bengals, FC Cincinnati, and Reds), and trying to be a little less heavy—mostly. I didn’t grow up traveling but learned to love it in my twenties and beyond. I played football through college and men’s rugby for a few years after. With all that said, I’m a nerd at heart; I love video games, role-playing games, and more. I’m currently trying to find time to play a role-playing campaign with my brother and cousin.

Why Am I Writing This Newsletter?

So, why am I writing yet another newsletter on AI? Well, I believe I can bring a unique and hopefully interesting perspective to the world of AI. I think AI is going to change every industry across the globe. Now, this isn’t an insightful or unique point of view. However, being a tech guy in the Midwest with a grounding in IoT and trying to build real businesses brings a certain je ne sais quoi.

I’ve been spending a lot of time examining various tools for the sake of my business and the future. New tools are popping up every day, and the landscape of AI is rapidly changing (DeepSeek, anyone?). I’m trying to identify where these tools can help me and my business. I think this information could be helpful to others, so why not give back a little while improving my writing skills and personal brand? Cheers, all!
